I came across this page on Facebook a few days ago and got in touch with the girls that set up the page to asked if I could share their story. I think it is just fantastic to see a group of young girls taking on such an important topic. Sport and activity is such an important part of life, especially during adolescents. Gaelic football is not just good for physical fitness it is also great for mental health and building friendships. Here is a bit on information about the page and the girls that set it up. Go and give them a like on Facebook!!! "We are 5 Transition Year students in St.Joseph's College Lucan, Co. Dublin. As part of TY, we are taking part in Young Social Innovators where youth have an opportunity to change an issue they face in their society. We are all huge fans of the GAA, although we noticed a re-occurring theme of lack of support and inequalities amongst men and women in the GAA. We knew something had to be done. Therefore, Kick Like a Girl was created. We’ve run surveys, a poster competition, interviews, lots of research and are currently organising a Panel for a talk and Q&A session. We hope to analyse the outcome of all the individual things we’ve done with their pros and cons and compile them into a model which can be carried out in other schools across Ireland. We are soon finishing up the "prep work" phase of the project where we have carried our extensive research and networked to the best of our ability and we will shortly begin running the actual events in late January. We believe Social Media is vital for the success of any project in the society we live in. Therefore if anybody is looking to support the project please give our Facebook page "Kick Like a Girl" a Like and/of share. Also, if you have any comments, opinions or ideas for the development of our project please don't hesitate to contact us via our Facebook page!"
