On Friday we held our first Biodivrsity Day. We worked with our Green School Committee to plan a fun day for the whole school. The day began with a visit from the Green Schools Committee from the local junior school. The two committees joined up and went on a tour of our school grounds. The senior boys brought the younger children around our Rainbow Garden. They explored the nature trail, fairy house, insect hotel and hedgehog house. We finished off the visit with a pincic in the garden. Several classes from the junior school also came to visit our school garden. It was a really enjoyable morning and we are hoping to continue this link in the future. Over the past few weeks the boys planted a selection of radishes, peas, spinach, cress, sedum and tomatoes. They set up a table in the school and sold their plants. They also gave the children the option of planting their own seeds. Each class was called out one by one and had the option to either buy a plant or plant their own. The children really enjoyed this and it was great to see the older boys run the stall.
For the remainder of the day the classes enjoyed minibeast, flower and nature hunts. The resources were all left in the staffroom so the class teachers could use them at a time that suited them. We finished off the day with a visit from a parent that works in pest control. He

This is the first year that I have not had to write summer reports. I find that they can take up so much of your time so the key is to be prepared. Make sure to jot down any notes or observations on post its. These will be a great help when you actually sit down to write a report. The way I like to approach reports is listed below: 1. Make a class list which you can tick off when each report is done( this is a great visual that makes you feel you are making progress) 2. Become familiar with your school's template. Our report template is very easy to manage and is mostly tick boxes. 3. Be honest. There should be no surprises in the end of year reports. Any issues or worries should have been shared with parents long ago. 4. Start with a report you find easy to write. I often find myself leaving some of the trickier reports until the end, Don't Do It! Try to mix them in together so you are not left with all of the tough ones at the end.I usually try to do 4-5 per day. I find if I do any more I start to get confused. 5. Every teacher says try to use the sandwich effect. This is very useful e.g. Sean is very enthusiastic and enjoys group work. Sean can be a distraction to those around him and needs to be reminded to stay on task. When he is focused Sean can produce some excellent work. 6. Be specific to each child . I still have some of my school reports that my mam kept over the years. They do not just contain general statements instead they are specific and remind me of that time in my life. Some helpful sites: Twinkl Report Statements Twinkl Report Resources Report Card Templates This is the third time that I've been asked to review a product. I would only review a product that I thought I might like or use. I was very excited when Pritt got in touch and asked me to review some of their products. You can only imagine my excitement when this package arrived in the post. I always use the original Pritt Stick and sticky dots but it was my first time using the other products. Blue Glue: I love this glue. It is blue when you rub it on the page but dries clear. I find it is very useful with children that tend to use half a glue stick to stick something small on a page. It allows them to clearly see how much glue they are using and where they are putting it. Pink and Green glue: I absolutely love this glue. It makes me feel like I am seven years old again. It is again very helpful because it is brightly coloured and easy to use. The glue dries in 3D which can be seen in the photograph. I think it has definitely got the novely factor and children would be very drawn to it. Pritt pen: This reminds me of Glue Gum I used to use as a child. It is very handy because the nozzle allows you be very precise with where you put the glue. It is a good mix between a glue stick and PVA glue. Glitter Glue: So i must admit that at first I didn't really know what to do with this! It comes in yellow or red and the colour stays even when the glue dries. I thought it would be a pity to cover the glue and not be able to see the glitter. However I then used it with a group of young girls. They absolutely loved it!! They used it as a glue but also as a decoration in itself. I was impressed with each of the products for different reasons. When it comes down to what I will buy myself in the future I will buy:
1. Original Pritt Stick 2. Glue Dots 3. Blue Pritt 4. Green glue I hope you all find this review useful, especially if you are a stationary junky like me :) |
