On Friday we held our first Biodivrsity Day. We worked with our Green School Committee to plan a fun day for the whole school. The day began with a visit from the Green Schools Committee from the local junior school. The two committees joined up and went on a tour of our school grounds. The senior boys brought the younger children around our Rainbow Garden. They explored the nature trail, fairy house, insect hotel and hedgehog house. We finished off the visit with a pincic in the garden. Several classes from the junior school also came to visit our school garden. It was a really enjoyable morning and we are hoping to continue this link in the future. Over the past few weeks the boys planted a selection of radishes, peas, spinach, cress, sedum and tomatoes. They set up a table in the school and sold their plants. They also gave the children the option of planting their own seeds. Each class was called out one by one and had the option to either buy a plant or plant their own. The children really enjoyed this and it was great to see the older boys run the stall.
For the remainder of the day the classes enjoyed minibeast, flower and nature hunts. The resources were all left in the staffroom so the class teachers could use them at a time that suited them. We finished off the day with a visit from a parent that works in pest control. He
